He was predeceased by: his parents, Fred Matthies and Roysten Matthies (Ellsworth); his wife Shirley Schaal; his siblings, Harold, Paul, Okie, Charles, Elsie Medaris, Clara Hicks and Bessie Boyd; and his grandson Nicholas Matthies.
He is survived by: his children, Frederick (Sue), Everett (Kevin), Carolyn Martell, Gene (Ann), Dean (Pam), Betty Ganser (John) and Allen. He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren.
