He was predeceased by: his parents, Harry Gilbert and Beulah Gilbert. He is survived by: his wife Melva Vernie of Limon; his children, Amy Hampton, Anita Grover and Greg Vernie; and his siblings, Ronald Gilbert, Marjorie Quint and Theresa Rhodes. He is also survived by 3 grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
