He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Lillian Frances Pivonka Pettigrew and Jimmy David Pettigrew; his stepgrandson Steve; his wife Shirley Beal; his children, Jeff, Steve, Jonda, Donette and Kathie; and his sister Karen. He was also cherished by twelve grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
