He was predeceased by: his parents, Albert William Gerteisen and Catherine Evelyn Blankenberger; his daughter Teresa M. Gerteisen (Diane); his sister Carolyn Gerteisen (Marianna); and his son-in-law Tim Nolan.

He is survived by: his former wife Joan Franta; his daughter Later (Nancy Mentele Wright); his wife Nancy; his daughter Diane Nolan of Rochester, Minnesota.; his stepsons, Jim Wright and Lonnie Wright; his daughter-in-law Tracy Wright of Thornton, Colorado.; his grandchild Kiera Nolan; his stepgrandchildren, Allison, Jason, Andrew and Jared Wright; and his brothers, Wayne (Mary Jude Gerteisen), David (Nancy Gerteisen) and Rick (Jane Gerteisen).
