Carroll Wayne Sorenson Obituary

Carroll Wayne Sorenson, age 85, passed away on January 12, 2025 in Thornton, Colorado. He was born February 12, 1939 in his rural Frost, Minnesota home to Selmer and Margaret Sorenson. He was Baptized and Confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church in Rake, Iowa and graduated from Frost High School in 1957 where he was active in athletics and music. Carroll then graduated in 1959 from Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa, where he sang in the college Chapel Choir. It is there he met his future wife Ardis L. Hanson.
In 1960 Carroll enlisted in the US Army. After training in Army Administration, he was assigned to the Hq & Hq Company of the 7th Infantry Division at Camp Casey in Korea for one year. While there, he was a member of the 7th Infantry Division Bayonet Chorale and sang in the camp Chapel Choir. They performed at a number of USO clubs in the area and on one occasion at the US Embassy in Seoul. The highlight of this was meeting the President of South Korea, Synman Rhee. This group placed third in the world All Army small group talent contest. Upon his return to the US, he was assigned to the Recruiting Main Station in Indianapolis, Indiana for the balance of his enlistment. He was united in marriage to Ardis L. Hanson on July 15, 1962.
Carroll and Ardis moved to Wells, MN where he worked at Nordaas American Homes, ran his own hardware store, and worked for Wells Concrete. After a move to Colorado, he worked at a retail store and was a steel detailer before his retirement.
Carroll loved fishing, working crossword or jigsaw puzzles, watching the Rockies, and most of all, spending time with his family and friends. He would always have a “good” Norwegian joke on hand and loved to share them. He was a charter member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church and was active in Choir, Men’s Group, Property Committee, and any other areas with which he could help. He loved his church and his Lord!
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 49 years, Ardis, his two brothers Stanley and Wallace, a niece, Kelly Jo, and all his aunts and uncles.
He is survived by his 4 children: Debra (Bill) Asiano; David (Jan Bridges); Darin, and Daniel Sorenson; three grandsons: Evan Asiano; Jackson and Astro (Kayden) Sorenson – all who were the joys of his life; his brothers Roger (Joanne) and Merrill (Sue) and sister-in-law, Myrna along with many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at 1:00 on February 1, 2025 at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Broomfield, Colorado. Internment will be in Northwood, Iowa at a later date.
