She was predeceased by: her parents, Franklin Shafer and Una V Shafer; her husband Thomas Calvin Smith of Knoxville; her son Brian; her sister-in-law Louise; and also, Leon and David.

She is survived by: her sister Venetia Ellis; her daughter Alicia Smith-Hoagland (Keith); her grandchildren, Zachary Meyer, Dylan, Paige and Tyler Hoagland; and her nieces and nephews, Greg Smith of Niwot, Risa Heussner (Steve) of McKinney, Allison Murray (Jeff) of Barrington, Stephen Smith (Maeve) of Knoxville, Tim Smith (Melissa) of Knoxville and Marleah McGhee of Knoxville, Tennessee..
