He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Wilbur Burton and Belva Burton; his wife Laura; his daughter Sarah Burton (Shane Thompson); his granddaughter Gianna Thompson; his son David Burton (Angie Markous); and his sisters, Lisa Heath and Cindy Dalpiaz. He was also cherished by several nieces and nephews.
