He was predeceased by: his parents, Bernie and Olivia; his siblings, Olivia, Zeke and Manuel Herrera; and his mother-in-law Genevieve Vigil.

He is survived by: his wife Peggy Vigil Herrera; his sons, Wally (Kendra Carrera), Fernando (Ana Vanegas) and Julio (Melva Espinosa); his grandsons, Giani, Rome, Juan, Maximus and Tizoc; his great-nephew Vincent; his brothers, Robert (Regina), Noel (Jill), Geno and Roland (Alicia); and his family, Wally, Machu Picchu and Santorini. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Wally was always calm under pressure; the quintessential diplomat; would help anyone in need of help; strived for "win-win" situations no matter the issue.
