Jamie Marie Schmidt Obituary

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Jamie Marie Schmidt (Alamosa, Colorado), born in Baltimore, Maryland, who passed away on March 15, 2020, at the age of 34, leaving to mourn family and friends.

With my daughter’s passing, I have suffered a loss from which I will never recover. Jamie was my best friend as well as my whole life. She was a unique individual who loved me & made me smile. She cherished her moments with her dogs and constant companions Petey and Buddy. Always child-like, she brought joy and happiness into anyone’s life fortunate enough to be a part of hers. Her trust in people was infinite.

Incredibly sensitive, Jamie Schmidt was a great soul. She only saw the good in people. Jamie worked with thousands of kids and families over eight summers installing in them the values she learned attending the Rumsey Hall School in Washington, CT, and the Canterbury School in New Milford, CT. She was selected by The Rumsey Hall School out of hundreds of applicants to be a charter member of the combined first and second grade class with a total of seven students. She was on the Rumsey Hall Dean’s List nine years in a row. She established the first ever peer counseling group at Canterbury. She was a star athlete and won the Coaches Award at Canterbury. She was recruited by the National Park Service (NPS) to integrate her activities programs at her Family Center into the NPS family programs at the NPS Visitor Center in Gunnison, CO. Earlier in Washington, CT., she worked as a summer camp counselor at the Institute for American Indian Studies. There, she was mentored by the Native staff in Native American culture and crafts. She lived her life by the values she acquired growing up.

Jamie loved her family. God bless Jamie.
