With heavy hearts, we announce the death of Ellen Mates (Walnut Creek, California), born in Berkeley, California, who passed away on August 31, 2021 at the age of 61. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She is survived by: her children, Anton Mates of San Francisco, Chelsea Bowden (Craig Jendza) of Lawrence and Charles Bowden of Oakland; her stepchild Juliia Bowden (David Gray) of Richmond; her close friend Burt Torgan (Deirdre Tabler) of Berkeley; and her siblings, John Mates (Susan) of Portland, Maureen Mates of Berkeley, Margaret Mates of Bothell and Susan Mates (Joseph Friedman) of Warren, RI. She is also survived by nieces and nephews.
