He was predeceased by: his wife Virginia Fowler; his parents, Ann Newcomb and Harry Newcomb; and his siblings, Jack Fowler and Ruth Fowler Coburn.

He is survived by: his children, Jane, Mark, Beverly Fondacabe (Perry), Paul (Leysa), Margaret Schultz (Rick) and Robert (Tina); his sister Betty Neblett; his brother-in-law Al Neblett; and his sister Barbara Verweyst. He is also survived by 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
