He was predeceased by: his parents, Wanda Mason Brown and John Baker Brown Sr.; his brother Steven A. Brown; and his daughter Jennifer Lewis. He is survived by: his son Donny; his granddaughter Jennifer; his brothers, John Baker Brown Jr. (Delilah Wynn-Brown) and Richard Oliver Brown (Marion); and his cousin Maryam Suluki (Andre Williams). He is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, other family members, and friends.

Later, he worked with the Delancey Street Foundation in San Francisco for many years.
