Mr. Mitchell lived his life the way he wanted while taking care of his family and gaining great respect from the people that came into his life. Dad migrated from Port of Spain, Trinidad to New York when he was a teenager. He graduated from the trade school in New York while learning his lifelong career as a welder. Later, he enlisted in the Air Force, married Alice his wife of 54 years, and with the three kids, they traveled throughout California, Japan and Okinawa. Dad was sent to Vietnam, thankfully he made it back safely.
After giving over 20 years of service to the Air Force, he worked at Mare Island for over 15 years and retired as a Foreman. After retirement, cruises, jazz shows, family vacations and spending time with family was his new past time.
Dad left a legacy with three children, two grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Francine, Stephen and Brian. Stephen’s children, the grandkids Mychal and Melissa, the great grandkids King (Mychal’s son) & Malaiha and Melody (Melissa’s children). His wife Alice passed away in 2010.
Beatrice (Bea) Henderson was a special family friend that took great care of Mr. Mitchell, taking him to appointments, and always ensuring that he was safe. She was a great companion to him for many years. We are grateful that she is part of the family.
Well Mr. Mitchell, we had a Blast! You were a great father that gave a lot of life lessons, laughs and that memory was amazing! RIP
