He was predeceased by: his parents, Fritz Schaarschmidt and Frieda Schaarschmidt; his children, Vibiana Bruno and Paul Schaarschmidt; and his siblings, Jim and Rose.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Mazy; his children, Fred (Renee Schaarschmidt), Kurt (MaryJo Schaarschmidt), Carl (Lisa Schaarschmidt), Lisa Perry of Redwood City and Mary; his son-in-law Richard Etow of Watsonville; his grandson James Schaarschmidt of Santa Cruz; and his sister Louise Priest of Ohio. He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren.
