He was predeceased by: his former wife Marilyn Gates; and his parents, Herbert Frederick and Eunice Gates. He is survived by: his wife Lydia; his daughter Trayce Warner (Mike); his grandchildren, Kade of Florence, KS, Cody of Florence, KS and Letitia Warner of Dallas, TX; his brothers, William Gates of Carpinteria, CA and Brad Bowman (Teresa) of Clearwater, KS; and his brother-in-law Jim Logan of Topeka, KS.. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
