“Jim and I were close friends as teenagers on Long Island. Our families had come there in the 50's, along with many others, as farmland became housing developments. We were in the same class in school, which we both liked and turned into careers. Jim had an amazing facility for language. His college professors couldn't say enough about his writing. I also remember him as never losing a card game. We hadn't seen each other in more than 40 years but I grieve his loss.”
