She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, Fernando Gonzalez Senior and Bertha Barbier-Gonzalez; her brothers, Fernando Gonzalez Junior and Mario Hector Gonzalez; her former husband James Edward Harper Jr.; her children, James Edward Harper III and Christina Bertha Harper; her close friend Bruce; her grandchildren, Celina Parra, Luevnia Wilson, Christina Wilson, Rosie Wilson and James Edward IV; her great grandchildren, Celina, Gabriel, Angell, Nyeilla, Gracey, Mia, Jaylah, Daniel Jr., Isabella, Samantha and Adriel; her grandfather Fernando; her grandson James IV; and her great grandchild Anthony.

Although Berta did not win the election, she was proud that she had mustered up the courage to run and took it as a sign to be involved behind closed doors and serve the people of Santa Clarita, in any way she could, like donating to small businesses and the local pet shelters to help lost pets, find their homes.
