He was predeceased by: his parents, Maurice Henry Messick and Ruth Anne Thurwanger Messick; his brother Peter Messick; and his sister-in-law Constance Mullen. He is survived by: his wife Judy; his sons, Chris and Andrew; his daughter-in-law Beth; his grandsons, William and Peter; and also Jenni. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

A time and place to commemorate David's life will be announced later, ideally after the COVID situation is brought under control.
