Gene" died on the morning of August 31, 2018 at the age of 98. Gene was born on a wheat farm in Ford County Kansas. The second of nine children of Everal and Josephine Jones, she learned at a very young age about working hard and caring for others. Her passion was education, always learning, reading, asking questions and striving for more. She poured her knowledge and love of children into elementary teaching. She started school at age 5 in first grade in a one room country school. Years later she started teaching in a one room school in Kansas. Most of her career though, was at Donald L. Rheem School in Moraga, California teaching third grade. Gene loved music and sang in church choirs as well as the Rossmoor Walnut Creek Community Chorus for many years. Travel was important and enjoyable for her. She and her late husband Henry Charles Jessup (Chuck), were fortunate to be able to travel to many countries. Living in Germany for three years offered wonderful opportunities to see much of Europe, Switzerland being a favorite. Gene was preceded in death by her husband Henry Charles Jessup. They had 36 wonderful years together. She was also preceded in death by her sister Emma Lou Sprague and brother Dan Jones, and son in law Red Meyer. Gene is survived by her son, Bill (Tessie) Kennedy, daughter Suzanne (Gordon) Kromer, stepdaughters Peggy Meyer, Lora (Bill) Stovall and Charla (Jim) Kates. Gene has 8 grandchildren: Amy Scanlon, Beth Ziarko, Alice Kennedy, Lisa Larson, James Low, Eric Low, Jason Kromer and Sarah Harter. She was blessed with 10 great grandchildren: Rylee, Jordyn, Hannah, Jackson, Eli, Cai, Austin, Bryce, Liam and Audrey. Gene is also survived by 6 siblings: Betty, Marie, Doris Ann, Roy, Max and Ruth. Gene was a beautiful woman known for her strength, resilience, inspiration, kindness, generosity and humor. She longed for heaven and is now at rest and peace in the knowledge of God's promise of life everlasting. Per her request, no service is planned.
