He was predeceased by: his parents, Russell William and Alice McCarty (McConkey); his son Steven Russell; his brothers, William "Bill" McCarty and James "Jim" McCarty; and his nieces, Molly McCarty and Melissa Campbell.

He is survived by: his wife Carolyn McCarty (Nay); his children, Anne Catherine McCarty and Jack Edward (Seng McCarty); his grandchildren, Melissa McCarty, Colin McCarty, Matthew McCarty, Zachary McCarty and Morgan McCarty; his great grandchild Isaiah McCarty; his sisters-in-law, Barbara McCarty of Ohio, Glendine McCarty of Texas and Martha Campbell of Greece; and his nieces and nephews, James McCarty (Theresa), John McCarty, Sue McCarty Van (Will), Robin McCarty Light, Constance Ordeman (Campbell), Elizabeth Gavala (Campbell) and Andrea Nay.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society.
