“I met Olga in San Francisco in early summer 1998 and was a guest in her home there. I was researching for a book about Russian emigré memoirist and poet, Olga Ilyin, whom Olga knew and admired. We talked about her own family's struggles after the Russian revolution, but especially about poetry, music (I played a Chopin prelude on her piano, at her request), and about the human condition. Olga was deeply compassionate, sensitive, curious and so very real.”
