He is survived by: his mother Julia Hunter of Mobile, AL; his children, Fadila James of San Diego, Hashimu James and Haki James of San Diego; his wife Carol Denise Braxton; his brother Ronald Brownlee (Jetta Brownlee); his children, Shawn Hill of Mobile, AL, Heshimu James, Terry West (Melvin West, Sr) of San Diego, Kamilah James of San Diego and Fikira Purvis of San Diego; his grandchildren, Terrel Ware, Tavon Ware, Melvin West, Jr., Breana Hill and Jaleah Hill; his siblings, Sharron Pattway (Mark Pattway), Jillion Swope, Phyliss and Terry James; his sisters-in-law, Jackie Barnes (Jerry Barnes), Darriel Braxton (Diana Braxton) and Venus Braxton; and his niece Cammy McMackins.
