Mariko left this world on May 12, 2024 at the age of 94, leaving a void in the lives of so many people. She was predeceased by: her parents, Kenichi Tomota and Midori Tomota. She is survived by: her brothers, George and Dale; her children, Kurt, Tina Vanderpluym (Donald), Penny Jasso (Hector), Gary Smoot (Laura) and Tony Smoot (Kurt Smoot); her grandchildren, Hector Jr., Thomas, Brittney, Derrick of Karyn, RC, Jake and Carter; and her great grandchildren, Trey, Joseph, Jonathan of Zion, AJ, Alex, Audrey, Joey, Eli and Kiya.
The life she knew would come to an end on February 19, 1942 when Executive Order 9066 was signed by then President Roosevelt after the bombing of Pearl Harbor that all American citizens of Japanese descent would be interned at various camps thru-out the United States.
