Lucille attended all Reedley schools, Washington, Grant, Reedley High, Reedley College and went onto California State University, Fresno. Lucy was 13 years old and had just started Reedley High School when her dad, a farm worker died suddenly in 1953. Her mother did not work, except during the summer packing seasons and never learned how to drive. Lucy's brother Jimmie quit school to work for Hamilton's Packing Company to support the family remaining at home, which was their mom and two brothers and two sisters; life was tough for all of them. At that time, Lucy's oldest brother Joseph Cox was in the Navy and went to college on the GI Bill. After graduating college, Joe landed a great teaching job and was able to help Lucy with her education. She graduated from Reedley High School in 1952 and went on to Reedley College. After graduating from Reedley College in 1959, she transferred to Fresno State University where she stayed at the Baker's Hall for 2 years while finishing her degree. Joe generously paid for Lucy's education and housing allowing her the opportunity to complete her education and become successful without any financial worries.
Lucy was very thankful for her brothers Joe, George and Jimmie for supporting their family during the time of great need. Her mother died in 1962 when Lucy was just 22; she and her brother Jimmie lived at their family home until 1978 when Lucy married Robert Warren.
After College, she worked at the Mid Valley Fire Department / Division of Forestry in Sanger for 16 years and transferred to the Big Fresno Fair in 1978 and worked there for 31 years. She retired in 2009 with 47 years of service with the State of CA.
In 2010, Lucille was nominated for the Big Fresno Fairs Hall of Fame award, by past Director Brian Tatarian and voted on by the full Board of Directors at their regular board meeting. She was nominated for her extraordinary and exemplary work habits, diligence and dedication she gave to the fair for 31 years.
Lucy was such a generous person that showed in all her work, Lucy donated numerous volunteer hours at St La Salle while her grandsons were attending school there. Lucy was such an amazing person and touched the lives of everyone she met. She will truly be missed by her family and friends, and even at the Fair. She will be remembered for the special bond she had with her daughter Julie Ann, grandson's Mikey and Rudy, as well as her many nieces and nephews she leaves behind.
