He is survived by: his wife Gwendolyn Fanning; his brother Robert Joseph Fanning; and his children, Robert Dunn, Carol Foster, Lila Morgan, Diana Vedder, Tina Maxwell and Merl Fanning Jr.. He is also survived by 15 grandchildren, and 12 great-grandchildren.
