He was loved and cherished by many people including: his grandchildren, Rene Gerardo Mejia and Adriana Victoria Cardenas; his wife Ramona Mejia; his children, Rene Jr. (Lupe Mejia), Marisela (Stan Penner), Joe (Yolanda Mejia), Maggie, Lorena (Francisco Soledad) and Patty (Jesse Hernandez); and his parents, Apolinaria Ortega and Ismael Montoya. He was also cherished by 13 Grandchildren and 16 Great Grandchildren.
