He was predeceased by: his parents, Abelardo Herrera and Gloria Gonzales; and his sisters, Becky Gable and Kathy Herrera Ciruso. He is survived by: his close friend Juanita Zavala; his children, Jody Herrera, Heidi Horton (Jonathan Horton) and John Herrera (Jennifer); his siblings, Eric Hernandez (Frances), Jim Herrera and Diane Stokes (Berry); and his grandchildren, Haile Herrera, Steven Horton, Andrew Horton and Joseph Pearson.
