He was predeceased by: his parents, Mildred Finks Rutherford and Paul Perry Rutherford; his grandparent Jean Finks; his wife Eunice Spirlock Rutherford; his sister Shirley Jean Walker; and his niece Michelle Smith.

He is survived by: his stepson Joseph Sodaro; his granddaughter Susan Sodaro-Carter; his great grandchild Aidan Carter; his niece Julie Kavanaugh; and his nephews, Glenn Berglund and Craig Berglund. He is also survived by many great nieces, great nephews, and cousins, as well as countless friends.
