He was predeceased by: his wife Suzanne; his daughter-in-law Kate Smart; his siblings, Richard Smart, Patsy Rush and Joanne Smart; and his parents, James Smart and Odell Smart.

He is survived by: his son Ken Smart of Mesa, AZ; and his grandchildren, Rachel Smart of Flagstaff, AZ, Brian Smart of Chandler, AZ and Daniel Smart of Mesa, AZ..
