He was predeceased by: his adoptive parents, Peter W. Taphorn and Bertha Taphorn (Howard); his siblings, Peter Werner Taphorn (Juanda) and Elizabeth "Beth" Taphorn Baker Ford; and his nephew Jess "Arthur" Baker.
He is survived by: his children, Betty Frances Merriman (Hap) and Robert Charles Taphorn; his grandson Steven Joseph Taphorn (Ivy); his great grandchild Noah Joseph Taphorn; his granddaughters, Violet Hardin, Mindy Sanford (Tony), Melody Barnes (Marlon), Crystal Hibberd (Chris), Tina Bauer (John), Pamela Merriman and Blossom Lewis (J. J.); and his wife Lorraine. He is also survived by thirteen other great grand-children, eight great-great grand-children, and numerous nieces and nephews.
