He was predeceased by: his parents, Freeland Parsons and Myrtle May Parsons (Pancake); his son Jerry Hester; and his sisters, Caroline Ryan and Geraldine Long.

He is survived by: his wife Lawanda Parsons (McElhaney); his children, Wanda Jean Womack (Gary), Sharon Murphy (Dave) and David Parsons; and his grandchildren, Christina, Danny, Chris, Dustin, Michael and Brittney. He is also survived by 11 great grandchildren, 11 great great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
