Tim" Powell was born in Hollywood, California on April 25, 1937. Born 2 1/2 months premature, his parents dubbed him "Tiny Tim", and the name stuck for life. His parents were Roland Dunbar Powell, and Florence Medcraft Powell. He had one sibling, Yvonne Powell Dunbar, 8 years his junior. Tim's father was a successful general contractor and land developer in Malibu, California. His mother was primarily a housewife, who also did volunteer work in Los Angeles. The family were all confirmed Episcopalians and attended St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Pacific Palisades, CA. As a teenager, Tim served as a church acolyte. Tim spent elementary school (through 8th. grade) at The Good Sheppard Catholic Academy in Beverly Hills, CA. He attended and graduated from University High School in Santa Monica, CA. in 1957. He did not attend college. Following High School he left home and embarked on a long series of employments – driving trucks across the country, crewing on cargo ships, learning the work of electricians, etc. He was very independent. He married, to Patty Brown, and had two children - Kathy Powell and Richard ("Rick") Powell. He and Patty were divorced after years living in Colorado and Idaho. Patty relocated, with the two children, to California. Tim remained in Idaho, then moved to Lynden, WA. Tim married again, very briefly. He was twice divorced. He and his children lived apart and were not close, regrettably. Our father died of multiple sclerosis when we were teenagers, and our mother, a victim of Alzheimer's disease, died in 2005. Disposition of her estate resulted in a comfortable award to Tim, which enabled him to buy and enjoy a pleasant home in Lynden, Washington.
