He was predeceased by: his parents, Francis Whitaker and Elaine Whitaker; and his son Michael Laurence Whitaker. He is survived by: his significant other Suzanne Whitaker; his grandchildren, Anji, Braden, Hayley, Guy, Ruby, Tenaya, Lisa, Erik, Matthew, Sarah, Niko, Angela, Rick and Sean; and his great grandchildren, Peter, Liam and Elowyn.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Steve's honor to the Mono Lake Committee, The Sierra Club of California, or the Yosemite Conservancy.
