Sebastiano Mario Billante Obituary
Sebastiano Mario "Buster" Billante, age 86, passed away May 17, 2022, at Community Hospital of Monterey Penninsula surrounded by his family. He was preceded in death by his parents Carmelo Billante, Maria Billante, and his in-laws Vincent and Caroline DiFranco. He is survived by his wife Josephine Billante, and 3 kids, Carey Billante (Shelley Billante), Vince Billante, Marilene Bruno (Joe Bruno), and 7 grandchildren.
Buster was born in Trapani, Sicily on November 20, 1935, and made his home in Marettimo, Sicily with his mother and father. Buster came to America with his mother at age 10 in August of 1946. He attended school at Thomas Larkin, Walter Colton, and Monterey High School. Following high school, Buster worked as a fisherman on his father's boat (Frances-Marie). Buster married the love of his life, Josephine DiFranco, on April 16, 1961, and they were married for 61 years and together for 63. Buster was employed with Carmel Unified School District as a Lead Mechanic and bus driver for over 30 years. Once retired, his passion and love for cars continued, delivering auto parts for Napa. At Napa, he continued to build and grow relationships with people all around the Monterey Peninsula.
Buster loved his family deeply and never hesitated to make everyone laugh. Known as "Uncle B" to many, Buster never failed to put a smile on someone's face, give a huge kiss on the cheek, or tickle your collarbone as a sign of affection. Buster and Jo loved to dance together, frequently being the last couple on the dance floor.
He was an avid pool player, sports fan, and bowler winning many trophies and awards. Buster enjoyed playing cards with his friends and family and traveling to Europe to spend time with his family in both France and Sicily. Buster's love of cars was channeled through his 1952 Chevy Deluxe, which he brought to car shows and drove with his grandkids while listening to the hits of the 50s. Buster was known to be the biggest supporter of his grandchildren. From sporting events to academic achievements and ceremonies, he never missed an opportunity to cheer them on.
Buster loved to visit his son, daughter-in-law, and grandkids in Las Vegas where he would enjoy gambling, relaxing, and spending time with family. No matter where he was, he'd be recognized for his kindness and friendliness, leaving a lasting impact on everyone from Monterey to Sicily. His grandkids will always take away his humorous nicknames and their individual special bonds. Buster/Nonno will be greatly missed and his memory will live on in all of us.
A mass of Christian burial for Sebastiano will be held Tuesday, May 31, 2022, at 10:30 AM at St. Angela Merici Church, 362 Lighthouse Ave., Pacific Grove, California 93950.
