She was predeceased by: her husband James; and her son-in-law Ken Martin. She is survived by: her sister Ruth Lund (Richard) of Corvallis, Oregon; her children, James Michael of Corral, Kurtis William (Chris) of Longwood, Edward Alan (Karen) of Astoria, Mark Andrew (Krista) of Dallas, Texas and Julie Karin Martin of Seattle, Washington; her grandchildren, Alex, Adrian Martin of Seattle, Alexandra Leinenkugel of Austin, Victoria Coleman (Trey) of Denton and Gabriella Leinenkugel of Dallas; and her great grandchild Poppy Coleman of Denton, Texas. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

“Sad on learning that Helvie, former schoolmate, died some months ago. We graduated from Bergland (MI) High School in 1944, I was sweet on her sister, Ruth, then.. Helvie wrote me twice a few years ago, complimenting on a history I wrote which included much info about her home birth area. I knew her brother and three sisters -- double dated once with her and Ruth. Two nice girls from a family of nice siblings. Rest in peace, dear lady. Marko Lulich, BHS Class of 1945. (Hi Ruth--just in case,)”
