Nellie Van Klaveren Obituary
Nellie Van Klaveren was born in Rotterdam, Netherlands on September 15, 1922. She passed away peacefully on November 7, 2024 in Oceanside, California near her Vista, California home.
She was the oldest of six children born to Jan Van Roon and Jantje (Van der Linden) Van Roon.
As a young woman she participated in the Dutch resistance movement during World War II. Along with her Grandmother and Uncle she aided in the hiding of a Jewish refugee in the attic of their home during the occupation of their country.
At the end of the war, she pursued an interest in the English language. While attending class she met Theodore Cornelius Van Klaveren and on June 9th, 1948 they were married.
They immigrated to the United States later that year and settled in Long Beach, California. Their family grew with the births of son, Theodore John, and daughter, Anne Elisabeth.
In 1960, the family moved to Garden Grove and enjoyed the happiest of family lives. Over those years, the family provided a loving home for 13 foster babies.
With great sorrow, Nellie's husband passed away at the age of 46. The days after were filled with shock, but Nellie moved forward with great courage. That courage would be a trait that she carried her whole life.
Nellie (known to many as "Oma") is survived by her two children, Ted Van Klaveren (Denise) of Atascadero, California, and Annelies Dease (Jim) of Vista, California, and by her brother, Pieter Van Roon in the Netherlands.
She is also survived by five loving grandchildren, Jonathan Dease (Jill), Meghan Hein (Dustin), Brianne Robinson (Ron), Timothy Van Klaveren (Lindsey) and Mark Van Klaveren, plus her eleven beloved great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to St. Jude Research Hospital in Memphis, TN or your charity of choice.
A funeral Mass celebrating Nellie's life will be Monday, November 18th at 11:00 AM at St Thomas More Catholic Church, 1450 S. Melrose Dr., Oceanside, CA 92056.
