He was predeceased by: his parents, Valente Velazquez Romero and Sipriana Garcia Rivera; his wife Carmen; and his children, Valente, Fernando (Steve) and Carmen.

He is survived by: his children, Emilio (Rosario), Sergio (Eustolia), Margarita, Elena (Michael), Consuelo (David), Luisa (Luis), Bernardo and Alejandro. He is also survived by ses 29 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, and one great-great grandchild.
