He is survived by: his wife Barbara Gaarde of Oakdale; his son Eric Gaarde (Kim) of Fresno, CA; his grandchildren, Rob Gaarde, Jenna Gaarde Noori (Stephan) and Lucas Gaarde; his daughter Christine Smith (Mike) of Pleasanton, CA; his grandchildren, Jenelle and Kevin; his daughter Susan Herll (Dale) of Colorado; his granddaughters, Elizabeth and Abigail; his son Scott Gaarde (Lindsay) of Colorado; his grandchild Thomas; his great grandchildren, Elijah Gaarde and Julian Noori; and his siblings, Pete Gaarde (Teri) of Modesto and Sally Nelson of Santa Fe, N. M..
