He was predeceased by: his sons, Gilberto and Bernardo Tafoya. He is survived by: his wife Patricia; his children, Maricella Tafoya Martinez, Patricia, Maria Isabel Tafoya Martinez, Anna Gabriela Tafoya Martinez and Brenda Tafoya Martinez; and his sister Francisca Tafoya. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and family members.
