He was predeceased by: his former wife Teresa Lozano. He is survived by: his daughter-in-law Betty; his wife Sharon Caruana; and his children, Anthony (Noel), Bernard "Bernie" (Betty), Eugene "Gino" (Angelica), Maria-Helena Uribe (Hector) and John (Viviana). He is also survived by 18 grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.

Josef "Joe" Rieping died in the presence of his beloved son Bernie and daughter-in-law Betty in Madera at 1:10 a.m., July 18, 2023, after battling Alzheimer's disease for more than two years.
