He was predeceased by: his parents, LaVerne Wicker and Oneda Wicker (Vance); his children, Tim and Susanne; and his brothers, Ernest and Ronnie.
He is survived by: his wife Jutta Rott of Velbert; his children, Esther Peterson of Holland, Ruth Wicker (Virginia) of Arlington, Lydia Koerber of Bruchsal and Thomas Wicker of Seattle; and his cousin Bob Massaro of Colorado Springs. He is also survived by twelve grandchildren, two great-grandchildren.
Over the course of his long musical career, Vernon gave many solo performances, led music for evangelistic crusades, worked with churches to vitalize worship, composed and recorded worship music, made scholarly contributions to the field of music history and taught at Seattle Pacific University.
