He was predeceased by: his son Dale; his sister Janet; and his parents, Fredrick Barthel and Louise Barthel. He is survived by: his wife Barbara; his sons, Joseph (Tami), David (Susan) and Jason; his sister Esther; and his daughter-in-law Michelle.
