Robert Brian McCorkle Obituary
Robert Brian McCorkle passed away on April 19, 2020 ultimately from the Covid Virus. He is survived by his mother, Lawanda McCorkle, siblings: Bruce, Brent, and Barbara.
Brian was born in Ventura, California, on July 13 1958. He was only 61 years old.
Most of his early education was in California, after which the family moved to Kansas for a few years, and eventually settled in Tappahannock Virginia where Dr. Robert McCorkle started his medical practice. It was his father's dream that they would work in the clinic together. Working a few summers in Dad's practice, gave him the desire to pursue a medical career.
Brian went to Shenandoah Valley Academy, and after High school went on to Andrews University and then to Loma Linda University Medical school where his father had been a graduate.
Brian was exceptionally intelligent and, if interested, would give 101 percent. He was a person we wanted to be around. He was a natural leader. His talents were broad. He was musical. He loved to play the guitar and sing. He was an avid snow and water skier excelling at both. He loved his time teaching water skiing in Hickory Cove, on Smith Mountain lake. He was part of AU gymnastics team, which he loved. He was always looking ahead for the next adventure. He had a great sense of humor, was a prankster, very charismatic and charming. He was larger than life and had an infectious personality that drew others to him. He connected with people and was able to make them feel as if they were the only one in the room.
In the last year of medical School he was involved in a serious motor cycle accident of which he miraculously survived. He was alway a fighter. A life changing accident like his would have left many with an angry, bitter outlook on life, but not Brian. No, he kept his ever positive attitude and outlook, actually encouraging others to be positive and look ahead, never back. Religion was a great part of his life and this kept him centered and focused. He never missed an opportunity to share his Source of strength, his God. Even when restricted by wheelchair and public transport he kept up with his faithful attendance at church. Like most men, food was high on his list of enjoyments. He would venture out with his wheelchair and the bus in search the best chocolate deals. He loved and appreciated his faithful, loving friends who stuck by him. He enjoyed watching TV re-runs with his friends. He would frequently mention how much his friends meant to him. He often spoke of their loyalty, unwavering support, generosity and the "family" connection he had with them.
Brian, you will be greatly missed. You have touched so many lives and the lessons we have learned from you have strengthened our faith and outlook on life, and carry on in our memories and we will smile when we think of you with your cheeky mischievous smile. Your earthly struggles are over Brian. We long for that glorious day, when God shall call up those who are sleeping to meet Him. We look forward to that day when we can be together without earthly frailties and human limitations. Will Always love you Brian.
John Donne:
"Death, be not proud, though some have called thee Mighty and dreadful, for thou are not so. For those whom thou think'st dost overthrow.......
....One short sleep past, we wake eternally,
And death shall be no more; Death, thou shalt die."
Daniel 12:13 NLT
“As for you, go your way until the end. You will rest, and then at the end of the days, you will rise again to receive the inheritance set aside for you.”
1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 (NKJV) For the Lord Himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord.
1 Corinthians 15:51-56 (ASV) We all shall not sleep, but we shall all be changed, 52 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. 53 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. 54 But when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall come to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory. 55 O death, where is thy victory? O death, where is thy sting? 56
