He was predeceased by: his parents, John Henry Reed Sr. and Mary Lee Reed; his siblings, Robert Lee, Claude Dee Reed, Pearlie May Brooks and Deotie M. Elbert; and his son Roy Lee Reed.
He is survived by: his son John Earl Reed; his siblings, Frank Reed, Clara Reed, Helen Parris, Tessie Reed and Bessie Beshar; and his close friend Jean Allen. He is also survived by grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other family members.
