She was loved and cherished by many people including: her parents, Ann Derryberry and William Derryberry; her daughters, Sue and August; her husband David House; and her daughter Stephanie House.

“Sue was a light. She brightened the world wherever she went. Her smile was like the sunrise ... the very embodiment of the Spanish word for smile, "sonrisa!" Sue and I sat facing one another in the choir rehearsal room. The seating arrangement was U-shaped. Sue sat at one extreme end of the U and I at the other, always facing one another. We smiled and made faces at one another expressing our opinions of the music, performance, or director's manner. Her laughter was like a delicate bell.”
