He was predeceased by: his wife Thadia Dythe Gillerman; his son Richard "Rick" Joseph Gillerman; and his brothers, Harvey and Joseph. He is survived by: his children, Kathy Schnee (Elliot), Karen Spiegel (Bobby) and John Gillerman; his grandchildren, Jason (Karen), Stacie, Tanya, Rebecca, Rachel, Isaac (Katelynn), Joshua, Adam (Danielle), Austin, Justin, Jordan, Mekenzi and Riley; and his great grandchildren, Anthony, Alanah, Tyler, Samuel, Maya, Richard, Joseph and Camden. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.
