He was predeceased by: his mother Ruth Huntoon Shirley; his former wife Pearl Morse Shirley; and his son Edward Shirley. He is survived by: his wife Phyllis Shirley; his children, Vickie Bartlett, Rebecca Pozsgai (Laslo), James Cochran (Marjorie) of California and Mason Cochran of California; his grandchildren, Johnny Bartlett, Anton Shirley (Brittany), William Wesley Shirley, James Cochran III, Elizabeth Cochran and Taylor Irwin; and his siblings, Lawrence Shirley and Zora Hodges. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
