Orlando M. Magpayo Obituary
Orlando Manalansan Magpayo, 80, passed away on Sunday, February 4th 2024, following a brief illness.
He leaves his wife of 53 years, Cecilia (Dalmao) Magpayo, his three sons and their wives, Joseph (Helen), Chris (Amy) and Jon (Ashley);two brothers (Onofre & Constancio), and two sisters (Luisa & Lucia (& Arturo)), a sister-in-law (Evelyn (&Jun)); seven grandchildren; and many close cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Born and raised in the Philippines, one of 9 children to Marciano and Beatriz, he immigrated to the United States, where he settled in as a resident of Huntington Beach.
In his early years, Orlando lived a simple life and would help with his family where he could; he attended Feati University on a basketball scholarship, graduating with a degree in Engineering, and afterward immigrated to California. He met his wife, Cecilia Dalmao, and they were married in 1970 in Los Angeles.
Orlando worked as a machinist contributing his skills to various industries, including notable companies such as Parker Hannifin, Fairchild Fastners, and eventually retiring with Alcoa. He extended his knowledge of tools and materials beyond the factory, and on weekends you could find him fixing or building things (usually with his family and relatives) to make homelife a little easier.
His greatest accomplishments were rooted in his devotion to his wife Cecilia and their three sons (and daughters-in-law), and even more so, the nurturing he poured onto his seven grandchildren. In his retirement, if he and Cecilia were not traveling, or he was not bowling, or at the beach, you could find him viewing virtually or at one of his grandkids’ sporting events or performances where his enthusiasm and pride were evident.
A funeral service will be held on February 24th at Saints Simon and Jude, with burial following.
