He was predeceased by: his parents, John Edward McGovern (Jack) and Magaret Mary Freney. He is survived by: his wife Linda McGovern; his children, Jeanne of Aspen and Jim (Brenda) of Huntington Beach, California.; his grandchildren, Abigail McGovern, Benjamin McGovern, Hannah Small and Zachary Small; and his siblings, Peggy Isselmann (John) and Mark McGovern (Chris). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and extended family.
