With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of JoAnne Grootegoed of Huntington Beach, California, born in Akron, Ohio, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on May 24, 2024 at the age of 86. She was predeceased by: her parents, Clarence Spellman (Esther Spellman) and Esther Spellman (Blackman); her sisters, Fran Kulwicki and Mary Spellman; and her siblings-in-law, Fred Abraham, Marie Spellman and Ida Spellman.
She is survived by: her husband Dr. Russell Grootegoed; her children, Dr. Ann Grootegoed (José Guerra), Mary Beth Grootegoed RN (Kevin Smith), Jennifer Grootegoed, John Grootegoed (Gabrielle Galardo), Dr. Rebecca Grootegoed Penera (Keith Penera) and Matthew Grootegoed (Melissa Melnyk); her grandchildren, Bridgette Guerra RN, Isabella Guerra, Michael Guerra, Kristiana Guerra, Liam Smith, Caitlin Smith, Kallen Smith, Braeden Smith, Audrey Penera, Charlotte Penera, Lauren Penera, Brinnley Grootegoed and Everly Grootegoed; and her siblings, Bill Spellman, Edward, Novelia Spellman, Elizabeth Castelluci, Catherine Abraham, Esther Louise, Joseph Sarkauskas, Joseph Kulwicki, Paul Spellman, Janet, Dr. Donal Pedersen, Robert and Wilma Grootegoed. She is also survived by numerous beautiful nieces and nephews.
